Sarasota, FL (January 6, 2014) - The latest blast of cold weather has technicians with One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning® working overtime. Most locations have a 20 percent increase in business from last year at this time. One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning always operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week and that schedule is in place as increased calls for service come in. The two most common calls right now are no heat or problems with a furnace. Technicians always carry the most common parts for furnaces directly on their trucks to make repairs quickly. In an emergency situation, some technicians can also install temporary, portable, heating units to restore comfort until a permanent repair is made. Dave Borowski, director of technical training for One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning, offers these tips to get the most out of your heating. Drafts - find them and fix them. A tube of caulk is cheaper than extra use on your oil bill or electric bill. Use a candle to find the air currents (be careful.) Clean the outdoor surfaces and caulk from the outside if possible. Fireplaces - use them smart. For a fireplace to work best it requires large quantities of air to mix with the fuel (wood or gas) to burn. If you're not using a modern fireplace that has a fresh air vent directly to the outside air (there will be a vent cover or grill on the outside wall of the fireplace) crack a nearby window. If you don't cold, wet, air can be pulled in through every crack and seam in your home actually cooling off your home. Furnaces - with the exception of replacing your air filters, there are no consumer serviceable elements of your heating system. To make sure your system is safe and working at peak performance call a certified technician. For more information contact your local One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning.
