Back to list Service & repair May 11, 2014 23:00 Direct Energy Offers $200K in Grants for Nonprofits' Energy-Efficient Upgrades Houston, TX (May 12, 2014) - Direct Energy wants to empower nonprofits to be more energy efficient by offering up to $200,000 in energy efficiency grants during 2014 as part of the Reduce Your Use For Good grant program. The program provides grants in $5,000 increments to nonprofits that meet certain criteria and are located in either a Direct Energy service area or areas served by a member of Direct Energy's family of brands: Bounce Energy, First Choice Power, New Leaf Energy, CPL Retail Energy, and WTU Retail Energy. Applications are now available at www.reduceyouruseforgood.com. "Direct Energy is committed to harnessing our energy expertise to make a difference in people's lives," said Jessica Mahaffey, Head of External Affairs, Direct Energy. "Our Reduce Your Use For Good grants are designed to support nonprofits in decreasing their energy use to have more funds to help their mission." To be eligible, nonprofit organizations must be classified by the US Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization ( or have a Registered Charitable Number in Canada) in areas where Direct Energy brands operate in North America. Grant funds must be used for the purchase of energy-efficient products or services to help nonprofits reduce their energy use. Many nonprofits simply don't have the funds to make the occasional big purchase that is desperately needed. The following are some of the options for nonprofits to apply their $5000 Direct Energy grant to be more energy efficient: Purchase Energy Star appliances Replace outdated lighting fixtures and install CFL bulbs Update HVAC systems Install programmable thermostats Install window coverings and panels Applications must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. CST on August 31, 2014 in order to be considered. Only one application per nonprofit organization will be accepted. All applicants will be notified by email by September 30, 2014.
