Government of Canada names Direct Energy Business as their new natural gas provider

Calgary, Alberta – The Government of Canada has named Direct Energy Business as their new natural gas provider for Correctional Services Canada, the Department of National Defence and Public Services and Procurement Canada. Direct Energy Business will provide natural gas management and related services for the next 10 years to these critical Government departments in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

“Direct Energy Business has a long-standing reputation of delivering customers with innovative energy solutions and flexible choices for their natural gas supply” said John Schultz, President, Centrica North America and Direct Energy Business. “We are so proud to be partnering with the Government of Canada as they leverage our experience across North America to buy less of what we sell and better manage the impact of energy on their budget and operations.”

The contract is based on an annual natural gas consumption of 10 BCF being awarded after an extensive RFP process.

“Our outstanding Alberta based team is committed to extracting the best value for the Government of Canada and Canadians” said Darin Holst, Canadian Sales Director, Direct Energy Business. “By utilizing local expertise, we will manage price and ensure budget certainty through market index, fixed price hedges and capped products”.

Direct Energy Business offers a suite of natural gas, electricity and renewable solutions for both small and large businesses to help increase efficiencies and give customers more control over their energy usage.
